Getting Around Hong Kong With Your Dog: the KMB Pet Bus
Getting around Hong Kong with a dog is the hard part — pets aren’t allowed on the MTR or ordinary buses (only guide and assistance dogs are). KMB’s “Pet Bus” (寵物巴士) is a rare exception: a bookable, daily service where your dog rides in the cabin with you, running to some of the city’s most popular dog-friendly destinations. Here’s how it works.
What the Pet Bus is
The Pet Bus is a special KMB service — separate from normal routes — that welcomes pet dogs (and cats) on board. It runs daily on a set of dedicated tour routes (PB1–PB5) that link two hubs — Go Park Sai Sha and the West Kowloon Cultural District — to districts across Hong Kong; a handful of stops are served only on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Tickets are booked in advance.
When it runs and how to book
Book through KMB’s App1933 mobile app: choose your route and date, pay, and you’ll get a confirmation email with a QR code to scan when boarding. Seats are limited and sell out, so book early — late arrivals generally aren’t refunded.
It’s cheap: about HK$35 for one passenger with one pet on a single trip, with unlimited-ride passes — 7-day (HK$80) and monthly (HK$150), and half price for seniors aged 65+. From the two hubs, departures run on weekdays at 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00, and every 45 minutes from 10:00 to 19:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Routes, times and fares still change as KMB expands the service, so confirm the current list in App1933 before you go.
The rules on board
A ticket covers one passenger with one pet; extra people or pets need their own. Keep your dog under control and leashed, bring waste bags, and arrive at the stop early. Designated seating may apply (for example, back rows prioritised for cat owners). Services can be cancelled in bad weather such as typhoon or rainstorm warnings, so check before you set off.
Where it goes — and what to do there
Handily, several Pet Bus stops are places already listed on this site, so you can plan the whole outing:
- West Kowloon Cultural District — the Art Park’s waterfront lawns and off-leash Pet Zone
- Ma Wan — home to Noah’s Ark, a pet-friendly theme park
- Go Park Sai Sha — a large pet-friendly leisure destination, and a route hub
- Mall stops including Airside (Kai Tak), V Walk (Nam Cheong) and YOHO Mall (Yuen Long)
The five routes also reach Sha Tin, Tai Po, Sai Kung, Tseung Kwan O, Kwun Tong, Hong Kong Island, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Tsing Yi and Discovery Bay. Check each destination’s page on this site for opening hours and dog rules, and App1933 for the full, current stop list.
Plan the trip
Use the map and the parks and malls listings on this site to line up where you’ll go, then book the matching Pet Bus route in App1933. Always confirm the latest routes, times and fares with KMB directly — the service is still growing.
