Where to go with your dog in Wan Chai
The district stretches from Wan Chai and Causeway Bay up to Happy Valley, Tai Hang and Tin Hau. The Star Street precinct behind Wan Chai and the lanes of Tai Hang are the most relaxed, café-heavy pockets — small, owner-run places that suit a quiet meal with a dog. Causeway Bay is busier and better for a planned lunch or dinner than a spontaneous stroll.
Happy Valley and the Bowen Road trail above Wan Chai are long-standing dog-walking routes, so it is easy to build a walk around a meal. Because the neighbourhoods sit close together, if your first choice is full you can usually walk to another approved venue nearby.
Getting there with your dog
Pet dogs are not allowed on the MTR — only assistance dogs, plus the separate Light Rail scheme in the New Territories — so arrive on foot, by taxi, by tram or by private car. The tram runs the length of the district along Hennessy Road and is a slow, scenic way to move between Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, though it can be crowded at peak times.
Not every taxi will take a dog, so a carrier or a mat helps and it is worth checking with the driver. Within the district, walking between venues is usually easiest.
Before you visit
Being on the approved list means a restaurant may admit dogs from 9 July 2026 — it does not set the house rules. Each venue decides the details: whether dogs are welcome throughout or only in a certain zone, whether they may sit on chairs, and whether a cleaning charge applies. Check the restaurant’s customer notice or call ahead, especially at busy times.
Keep your dog leashed and under control, bring water and a mat, and clean up after any accident. A well-behaved visit is what keeps these places dog-friendly.
Frequently asked questions

Is the whole restaurant dog-friendly, or just outdoor seating? It depends on the venue’s own house rules — some welcome dogs throughout, others set a dog zone or an outdoor-only area. Always confirm with the restaurant.
Can I take my dog on the MTR to get there? No — pet dogs are not allowed on the MTR. For Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, travel on foot, by tram, by taxi or by car.
