Where to go with your dog on the islands
Discovery Bay on Lantau is the standout: largely car-free, with a beach, a long promenade and a plaza full of restaurants that have long welcomed dogs. Elsewhere on Lantau, Tung Chung and Mui Wo add mall and waterfront dining, while Cheung Chau, Peng Chau and Lamma offer village seafood and cafés along their waterfronts.
The islands reward slowing down. Take a pet-friendly ferry across, walk the promenade or beach, and settle in at an approved venue by the water. Discovery Bay in particular, with no cars and everything within walking distance, is one of the easiest full-day outings with a dog in the whole territory.
Getting there with your dog
Pet dogs are not allowed on the MTR — only assistance dogs are, plus the separate Light Rail pet scheme in the New Territories — so plan to arrive on foot, by taxi or by private car. Not every taxi will take a dog, so a carrier or a mat helps, and it is worth confirming with the driver before you get in.

Being on the approved list means a restaurant may admit dogs from 9 July 2026 — it does not set the house rules. Each venue decides the details: whether dogs are welcome throughout or only in a certain zone, whether they may sit on chairs, and whether a cleaning charge applies. Check the restaurant’s customer notice or call ahead, especially at busy times.
