How to Choose the Right Dog-Friendly Restaurant
An approved restaurant is only the starting point — the right one for your dog depends on its temperament, the space, and when you go. A little planning is the difference between a relaxed meal and a stressful one.
Confirm it is approved, and when
First, check the venue is allocated a place on this map and look for the official A3 approval sign at the entrance. Then confirm which days and hours it actually welcomes dogs, and call ahead if you are unsure — approval does not mean dogs are welcome at every hour.
Match the venue to your dog
Be honest about your dog’s temperament. A calm, sociable dog will cope with a busy dining room; a nervous or reactive dog will be happier somewhere quiet, outdoors, or at off-peak times.
If your dog is still learning to settle, choose a smaller or less crowded venue for the first few visits.
Indoor, outdoor or both
Outdoor terraces are often the easiest option — more space, fewer obstacles, and an easy exit if your dog needs a break. In Hong Kong’s heat, look for shade and check the restaurant can provide water; on very hot or wet days, an air-conditioned indoor spot may be kinder.
Space and seating
Aim for a corner or edge table with room for your dog to lie down on a mat, away from walkways where staff carry food. Remember dogs cannot be seated at bar counters or within 1.5 metres of a buffet, so factor that into where you ask to sit.

- Dog-friendly on the day and time you plan to visit
- Space to settle, ideally a corner or outdoor table
- Suits your dog’s temperament and the weather
- Called ahead if you have any doubt
